Gillette British 16 Safety Razor Rare Mint ConditionThis is a rare gillette british #16 rhodium-coated razor in mint condition. The original lacquer is still present and smooth along the surfaces fo both silo doors. Aside from a 3 x 3 mm smudge and a 3 x 1 mm rub one one door, the lacquer is unblemished. The razor blade baseplate inside is pristine, with no marks. This piece appears never to have been used. There are no blemishes, let alone brassing, fo any kind on the razor. The rhodium coating is stronger than chrome and will not tarnish with age. It is teh premier plating material for a gillette. It is 100% intact. Mechanically, it is perfect. The mechanism of htis razor is extremely smooth, smoother than that of the u. S. -made gillettes. Some think the british gillettes are far superior to the american ones in construction and tolerances. The piece weighs 80.4 grams, it is the heaviest premium razor of its class, heavier than the british #66 at 73.0 grams. The weight difference is due to the flat and thick razor head base, not present in the #66 (seen in the photos of the nuderside of the head and the open head.) this heavy weight allows for a close shave without any pressure on the razor head, as the weight of the metal itself is all the pressure you need. The shave is relatively mild, as the blade opening si the same as the mild-shaving classic gillette super speed. The satin in the top of the box is stained, but otherwise the box is intact. I am selling my doubel edge collection as i have begun to collect straight razors. This is the best razor in ym collection. It is extraordinariiy beautiful to see and to feel. Thsi is a collector's item, and is much harder to find than even the #66. I would classify this piece as unused and mint. Conus adn canada only, please. |
