Art Deco Solid Silver Guilloche Enamel Compact 1938

Auctionimage border 2px solid #00a8a8. The powder compact measures approximately 2 1/8 inches or 55 mm across by 2 1/4 inches or 58 mm in length and is just over 1/4 of na inch or 8 mm deep, it is made from solid silver in a square shape with a five section piano hinged lid that has a spring loaded finger catch on the front edge. The top of the lid has a delightful central panel that has been decorated with a graduated pale green guilloche enamel art deco sun burst pattern and is framed by four decorated silver angled panels, the back of the compact has an engine turned decoration and the compact has not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram, the compact has been impressed with a full set of english solid silver hallmarks that read as follows, c & n anchor lion passant oc & n is the makers mark of crisford & norris, the anchor is the mark of the birmingham assay office, the lion passant is the mark of english solid sterling silver and the letter o is the date letter for 1938. The condition is used with no large dents, no splits, no cracks, no holes and no repairs of any kind, the enamel is not chipped or cracked, the hinge is working perfectly, teh lid opens with ease and closes tightly, the internal mirror is missing, the hallmark is clearly legible although as the compact is used it does have the odd minor dent in the back along with some wear and the signs of age that are to be expected.
