Antique French Silk Ribbon Rose 3Tier Powder BoxpuffA very rare three tiered stacking french powder box dating to the early 1900's. Back in the day, it was popular ot cover commercial cardboard powder boxes with beautiful french textiles. This features three boxes measuring 3 3/4, 2 1/4 and 1 1/2 all attached to each other but each top comes off. Height is about 3 1/8. The top section has a mirror under the lid and contains white powder as well as a 1 1/4 wool and pink silk topped powder puff. Love the handle on this puff. A tiny gold metallic lame' button. The second section contains a cake of bright pink rouge.
The thidr section contains a 3 pinky/peach velvet/velour powder puff. This section had some loose powder in it when i purchased it but it was making a mess so i cleaned it out. The box is covered in pale pink silk and gold metallic lame' lace adn gold silk cording. The areas between the tiers are trimmed with frenhc silk ombre' ribbon rosette/rococo trim. Roses are in variegated shades of cream and pink. Adorning the top is an ombre' silk rose colored ribbon flower with rolled edges and metallic center. Two ombre' silk leaves accent each side. It looks like a french wedding cake! This beautiful box is in very nice condition with no significant issues to report. tI is strong and sturdy with no breaks in the cardboard. Overall the textiles are in good condition for display but if you look close you can see some splitting on the large flower on the lid. Pink silk has soem light age discoloration. The bottom piece has more significant soiling around the outer edges sa well as a couple of dark stains on the very bottom as shown in my last photo.
Overall this is a fanatstic piece. I've collected these boxes for years and htis is the first one like this i've found.
